Today you will get to know Quito’s Old Town, the largest and best preserved Old Town in Latin America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. Your Ecuador Hop guide will show you the Highlights of colonial Quito with its churches, historic buildings and monuments. On the tour you will visit some of the oldest churches in America such as “El Sagrario and La Companía”. Youngline

You will also get to know the squares of Santo Domingo, La Merced and San Francisco. On the hill “El Panecillo” you will see the winged Virgin and have a fascinating view over Quito. Youngline

Today we go to the National Park Cotopaxi. Youngline

In the morning, take the tour bus to Cotopaxi National Park. There you have the opportunity to take a hike around the Limpiopungo lagoon (about 1 hour). If the weather is good, you can enjoy a great view of some surrounding volcanoes. From the parking lot you can also walk to the Refuge Jose Ribas (4,500 m above sea level) if you like. Youngline

The Quilotoa lagoon is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Ecuador. At the collapsed crater of the lagoon, Kichwa Indians live in the seclusion of the mountain villages.

At 10:30 you drive from Lasso to Baños. Once in Baños, you can either relax in your Hotel or explore Baños and its many Outdoor activities. From here you can easily visit the waterfall‘ Pailon del Diablo ‘ or take a cable car over the river if you are looking for an adrenaline rush. The Rest of the day is at your disposal.

In Baños you can experience many exciting activities in the area. A must is to visit one of Ecuador’s highest waterfalls, the Pailón de Diablo. Other options include hiking or horseback riding in the surrounding hills, mountain biking along the Waterfall Route, Rafting and various adventure sports – depending on the adventure mood and Fitness.

You will be picked up from the Hotel and head east into the rainforest to Itamandi Lodge.

Itamandi Lodge is located on the borders of the Arajuno River, about 45 minutes from the small town of Tena. Tena can be reached in four hours by car. A small motorised canoe ride takes you to Itamandi Eco Lodge.

Around 15:00 you should be at the canoe port at the bridge of Arajuno, where you are already expected by the Guide. During a 20-minute ride in a motorized canoe to the Lodge, you will get a first impression of the rainforest. Take in the beautiful nature.

In the evening you have the option to take a night walk, where you will hopefully have the opportunity to admire some of the nocturnal inhabitants.

You will be surrounded by the sounds of the night and with a bit of luck can observe bats, frogs, various insects and maybe even snakes. With clear visibility you will be able to look into a breathtaking starry sky.

Early in the morning you have the opportunity to take a trip to the parrot rocks under suitable climatic conditions. The rock contains important minerals that help the parrots and parakeets digest the ingested fruits and seeds. Hundreds of birds come down from the treetops to the rocks to nibble the important minerals from the rock.

After breakfast, you can explore the evergreen rainforest. With a local Guide you will discover orchids, Fern, epiphytes and many other plant species unknown to Europeans. You will learn a lot about the local plants, such as the Dragon Blood Tree, and their use as food, but also for healing purposes.

Back at the Lodge and before dinner you can optionally participate in a small Workshop where you will be shown how to make chocolate in the traditional way.

After breakfast you will be picked up from Itamandi Lodge and taken to Baños.

In Baños you will take the Bus at 14:00 (from Ecuador Hop) to Alusi.

In the morning you will walk to the train station in Alausi, the Start and end point of today’s spectacular train ride. The train descends in Serpent lines alternately forwards and backwards, making its way through the mountain chains with cacti, rippling streams, steep mountain walls and gorges. Then begins the last and steepest part of the route. On the one hand, the rock face of the mighty mountain Nariz del Diablo, the devil’s nose, is only a hand’s width away, on the other hand, the rugged, wide Andean landscape offers unique panoramas and picture-book-like photo motifs. Arriving at Sibambe station take a break before the train returns to Alausi station (journey time approx. 2.5 hours, round trip)

In the afternoon, take the bus from Alausi to Cuenca at 18:00. Your arrival time in Cuenca will be 23: 00.

Today you will leave the Highlands and make your way down to the coast. The journey continues to Montañita beach, where you will spend the night.

In the afternoon, after relaxing with the sound of the waves, take the Bus to Guayaquil, it will be the last stop of this incredible journey.
